Our Story
From Screen Problem to Monday Toys
It started quietly, with a mobile phone becoming part of our child’s everyday life.
When Mobile Phone Became the Favourite Toy of My Child
Hi I am Surbhi, founder of Monday Toys.
But before that, I am a parent.
When my son turned 1.8 years old, we started noticing something that deeply worried us.
The mobile phone had become his favorite thing.
Without it:
- He would get irritated
- Throw tantrums
- Cry and follow us everywhere
- Struggle to stay engaged on his own
Like most parents, we thought, “This is temporary.”
But deep inside, we knew something wasn’t right.
Toys Were There… But Engagement Wasn’t
We did what every caring parent does. We bought toys — many of them.
Bright plastic toys from the market. Some musical. Some colourful.
But the pattern was always the same:
- A few minutes of interest
- Then boredom
- Then the toy thrown aside
And once again, the search for the mobile phone began.
A Fear That Every Parent Understands
As our child grew, another fear slowly crept in.
He became fascinated with:
- Electric switches
- Plug points
- Switchboards on the wall
Watching him try to put his fingers near sockets was terrifying.
We realised:
We weren’t just fighting screen time anymore.
We were worrying about safety too.
We Wanted One Simple Thing
At that point, our wish as parents was simple:
- Something that keeps him away from screens
- Something that keeps him engaged for long durations
- Something that is safe
- And something that helps him learn naturally
Not too much to ask.
Yet, we couldn’t find anything that solved all of this together.
That’s When We Found Montessori Busy Boards
While searching online, we came across Montessori Busy Boards.
They were:
- Popular globally
- Designed for sensory learning
- Made to satisfy a child’s natural curiosity
But in India, they were:
- Hard to find
- Overpriced
- Or not designed keeping Indian parents in mind
Still, the idea stayed with us.
So We Decided to Build One at Home
We are engineers by profession.
And one day, we asked ourselves:
What if we make this ourselves?
We:
- Bought raw wood
- Went to a carpenter to cut it
- Purchased switches, lights, music modules
- Designed circuits at home
- Failed many times
- Rebuilt again and again
Slowly, piece by piece, our first busy board came to life.
The Moment That Changed Everything
We gave the board to our child.
What happened next still stays with us.
He:
- Pressed switches again and again
- Watched lights glow
- Listened to music
- Played independently
And then something incredible happened.
👉 He stopped asking for the mobile
👉 He stayed engaged for long periods
👉 He was calm, curious, and happy
For the first time, we felt relief.
We Realised This Was Not Just Our Problem
We started talking to friends, relatives, and other parents.
Almost everyone said the same thing:
- “My child is always on mobile”
- “Nothing holds their attention”
- “I don’t know what to do anymore”
That’s when we knew:
This solution shouldn’t stay only in our home.
That’s How Monday Toys Was Born
Monday Toys started with a simple promise:
To help parents reduce screen time through meaningful, hands-on play.
We didn’t want to build just another toy brand.
We wanted to build solutions that Indian parents actually need.
What Every Monday Toy Stands For
Every toy we create is designed to:
- Encourage real, hands-on play
- Keep children safe
- Build curiosity and sensory skills
- Reduce dependence on screens
- Stay affordable for Indian families
Because we design our toys as parents first.
A Promise From One Parent to Another
We know how it feels:
- To worry about screen time
- To feel helpless during tantrums
- To just want your child to play happily
That’s why we promise:
- No gimmicks
- No unsafe designs
- No unnecessary distractions
Only thoughtful toys, built with care.
